The
Piano Performance program at UL-
Lafayette develops artistry in the performance and interpretation of
keyboard literature. There are ample performance opportunities
for
students. Studio masterclasses are held weekly, providing not
only
performance experience for students but a forum for the discussion of
performance practices, technique, and keyboard literature. The
annual
Frank Hanley/Friends of Music-Acadiana Piano Competition, the UL
Orchestra Concerto Competition, and the MTNA Chamber Music Competition
provide further opportunities for performance excellence and cash
awards.
In addition to solo performance
skills, students may participate in a wide variety of ensembles from
accompanying and chamber music to large ensembles such as orchestra and
wind ensemble.

Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance (BM) This
undergraduate degree provides a solid
foundation for students in all aspects of performance and important
related courses such as music theory, music history, keyboard
literature, keyboard harmony and piano pedagogy. Performance majors
must play a junior and a senior level public piano
recital. CurriculumStudents pursuing this concentration
typically are performance oriented pianists who seek a high level of
performance skill and who intend to continue their studies at the
graduate level. A performance degree can also lead to specialized
graduate study in other areas of music. These other areas may
include Accompanying/Chamber Music Performance, Music Theory or Piano
